The Camel Game

Sorry for anyone who is not interested, but today is another board game post...

So the other game we played on New Years was "Through the Desert," at the request of Doris. This is a pretty fun game which uses a mechanic of placing pieces similar to "Go." in that you are trying to enclose areas with your pieces. The great thing is that the pieces just happen to be pastel coloured camels.
Below you can see some of the camels in action, I believe the red player in our game was Ryan. Ryan has had a pretty bad streak of luck when it comes to playing games recently. He always seems to be doing well, then snatches defeat out of thin air at the very end. Today was different though, Ryan somehow managed to overcome his bad luck and finally win a game. He won the camel game something like 75-63-63-60. I think it was Doris who came last, which was funny, because I think this is one of her favorite games.

Here is the whole group getting ready for the camel journey. It is a pretty neat game in that there is no randomness at all to it, no dice, no cards. It is all about where you place your pieces, and then try to place them better than the others playing. The theme of camels and desert is totally irrelevant to the game play, but I have not played with anyone who did not really enjoy the little pastel camels.
